For many, the idea of advocacy conjures visions of politics and gridlock. But advocacy is a powerful tool for improving diabetes-related policies, especially at the state level where it is often faster and easier to push for change than at the federal level. Whether you’ve been advocating for years or you’re new to the idea of using your voice to bring about change in your state, this session is for you. In this interactive roundtable session, participants will discuss opportunities and challenges to addressing a wide array of diabetes-related policies in their state including how to identify problems and formulate an advocacy plan, barriers and facilitators to change, partnership opportunities, and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in 1-2 tables on topics including:
• New or improved state Medicaid coverage of DSMES
• Medicaid coverage of the Diabetes Prevention Program
• Coverage of CGMs, pumps, and other diabetes technologies
• Coverage and/or co-pay caps for diabetes and obesity medications
• Licensure and scope of practice
