Knowing what to say and how to say it are key influencers in a practitioner's decision to start a conversation about a new topic. For approaching family decision-makers about getting T1D screening for family members with a first-degree relative with T1D, the person-centered skills and approach of Motivational Interviewing (MI) are aligned with helping DCESs 'gear up' for the T1D screening conversation. This session presents MI case studies, shared decision-making discussions, and additional resources in the T1D screening context to support the DCES wishing to be at the forefront of this emerging opportunity to support T1D families.
