People with diabetes are surrounded by numbers: A1C, time-in-range, insulin and medication doses, and weight. As healthcare professionals, we see these numbers as data, but people with diabetes often feel a range of emotions, from frustration to anxiety, disappointment to shame. In this session, the presenters explore the stories created about these numbers and their impact on diabetes management and mental health. Attendees will walk away from the session with practical ways to examine and adjust their narrative and how to have conversations about what diabetes data means to reduce misconceptions and diabetes distress.
