What does "culture" mean to you? In our multicultural society, what does it mean to practice cultural competency, humility, and fluency? How can the DCES apply this knowledge to enhance diabetes care and education most effectively and compassionately? This session utilizes case studies and a learning exercise to enhance DCES awareness and appreciation for cultural constructs in the life of the person with diabetes that impact one's ability to care for and manage diabetes effectively. Tools for identifying implicit biases to enable health care professionals to develop meaningful relationships which lead to positive outcomes will be shared.
