The burgeoning field of dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist medications for diabetes and weight loss is complex. These medications have taken social media and the weight loss community by storm, distorting their use and considerations with a facade of being a “magic bullet.” In this session, a multidisciplinary panel of presenters discusses considerations of these medications concerning mechanism of action, equity of access, disparities of use, side effect management, titration schedules, and complications. Presenters highlight the importance of positive lifestyle changes, considerations for discontinuation, and potential long-term consequences.
