Despite diabetes being the leading cause of blindness globally, diabetes education and treatment is not tailored for Blind/Low Vision(BLV) people. For Deaf/Hard of Hearing(DHH) people, clinicians are not trained in how to work with ASL interpreters and DHH patients. There is a critical need to educate diabetes care and education specialists to improve health equity in diabetes care for DHH and BLV. This session focuses on tips for optimizing diabetes technology use by exploring how to work with a) DHH individuals and ASL interpreters through mock scenarios and b) BLV individuals using blind assistance technology.
