One in five adults live with a disability. Having diabetes is a contributing factor to many disabilities yet many individuals do not disclose their disability to their health care team. DCESs are in a unique position to address the barriers to a healthy life by providing information and resources for self-care and acknowledging and addressing the social determinants of health. Having open and honest communication is key. It takes thoughtful reflection to accept assistance for a disability. This session discusses the experiences of people with disability and how the DCES can help them live their best lives.
