Effective glucose management often requires addressing numerous factors, including medication dosing. Research shows that the frequency of insulin adjustment correlates to time-to-target. Diabetes care and education specialists possess the knowledge, skills, relationships, and availability that enable them to take an active role in insulin titration. However, their scope of practice must also be considered, as certification does not expand the scope of practice. This presentation will discuss scope limitations, as well as the development of insulin adjustment standing orders. Standing orders can empower the DCES to take a more active role in mitigating therapeutic inertia.
