Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a term for the spectrum of disease within the liver and encompasses metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). Diabetes is a major risk factor for MASH. An estimated more than 70% of people with type 2 diabetes have MAFLD. This session reviews concepts of diabetes care and comprehensive medication management in people with diabetes and MAFLD to optimize outcomes. Case scenarios will be utilized to apply recommendations from clinical guidelines, and findings from primary literature on management of MAFLD in people with diabetes. The role of the diabetes care and education specialist will be discussed.
