Mitigating therapeutic inertia with GLP-1 use can be challenging. This class of medication has garnered unprecedented attention because of added benefits that have not been seen with previous classes of medications. Adverse effects coupled with limited access and high cost/co-pays can drive patients to discontinue a GLP-1 long before achieving their therapeutic goals. Ongoing education and support are key. This presentation provides an overview of common barriers to advancing GLP-1 therapy for people with type 2 diabetes coupled with practical evidence-based solutions diabetes care and education specialists can implement in practice.
