Regular physical activity and exercise are the foundation of diabetes prevention and management. Unfortunately, most individuals do not meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity. Diabetes care and education specialists play an important role in helping individuals become more active. Focusing on a prescriptive and educational approach to helping people adopt a health-promoting lifestyle has limited success. In this session, attendees will learn assessment skills and understand why and how people become active and the behavior-change strategies that effectively promote physical activity. The presenter will review unique challenges related to hypoglycemia, diabetes-related technology, and complications.
