Inpatient diabetes care and education specialists have a unique opportunity to identify areas in need of improvement related to quality diabetes care. This session delves into the fact that since the majority of care at the bedside is delivered by non-diabetes specialists, the DCES should provide ongoing education and helpful tools that facilitate achieving and maintaining glycemic goals, prevent medication errors, support the use of personal diabetes technology and develop safe and effective discharge plans. Working collaboratively with all members of the care team to develop innovative strategies that support current guidelines should improve clinical outcomes and the patient experience.
