Diabetes-related peripheral neuropathy is one of the most prevalent and devastating complications of diabetes. The negative impact on the quality of life for the person with diabetes can be life-altering. Pain, inability to perform activities of daily living, and loss of limb can occur. Despite this, treatment options are limited and often not effective. Health care practitioners are often under-informed about treatment options, and therefore, may be reluctant to prescribe treatment. This presentation reviews current treatment options for diabetes-related peripheral neuropathy to inform attendees and facilitate a reduction in therapeutic inertia for treating this painful diabetes complication.
