A tertiary care facility created a Diabetes Nurse Champion program to improve patient safety and address the demand for nurses to provide education. Based on the success of this model, and due to the increased prevalence of diabetes in pregnancy, an Obstetric Diabetes Nurse Champion program was designed for nurses providing comprehensive care for birthing patients with diabetes. This session reviews the development of a course to address the critical need for specialized knowledge about diabetes in pregnancy among obstetric nurses. The curriculum focused on enhancing the competence of obstetric nurses in managing the demands posed by diabetes during pregnancy.
