Diabetes management in the inpatient setting is a complex process involving many team players, with bedside nurses playing a central role. Aside from caring for patients and administering insulin, bedside nurses are also tasked with educating patients regarding practical diabetes concepts. However, given the wide array of topics and ever-changing medical and technological landscape, many nurses have multiple knowledge gaps in up-to-date diabetes management. Continuing education is paramount, but it can come in many forms with varying degrees of success. This session will discuss examples, pitfalls, and strategies to implement effective and robust diabetes educational programs for inpatient nurses.
