Disordered eating is common among people with diabetes; in fact, an estimated 40% of people with diabetes may have comorbid eating disorders. Research on this relationship in Latinos with T2D is limited, and with many barriers to accessing healthcare, there are opportunities for diabetes care and education specialists to reduce harm through weight-inclusive, person-centered care. This approach focuses on modifiable behaviors and the diverse cultural and individual factors influencing diabetes care. This session will review cultural factors and beliefs that influence eating behaviors and provide a practical approach to diabetes care that minimizes potential harm caused by disordered eating behaviors.
