Obesity is a chronic disease with significant health consequences. Despite the availability of treatment, many individuals living with a higher body weight do not receive the care needed due to therapeutic inertia. By understanding the causes and consequences, diabetes care and education specialists can develop and implement successful strategies to address obesity, improve access to care, enhance outcomes, and reduce the burden of obesity on individuals and society. This presentation will explore the causes and consequences of therapeutic inertia in obesity management and provide practical strategies for diabetes care and education specialists to overcome these barriers.
