F09C - Implement Strategies to Recruit Non-Hispanic Black Adults with T2D for Research Studies

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) in non-Hispanic Black adults continues to rise along with co-morbid conditions, disability, and mortality despite advances in diabetes pharmacology and technology. The participation of non-Hispanic Black adults in clinical research is critical and has been a challenge that impacts the ability to fully assess engagement in diabetes self-care, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and generalize research findings. In addition to using evidence-based recruitment strategies, population-centered ideas are needed to attract and inform non-Hispanic Black adults with T2D about the importance of their input and participation in the research so that tailored health decisions, medications, and diabetes technology are provided for their community. In this session, presenters share multiple recruitment strategies implemented in a study examining the relationship between self-care and diabetes distress in non-Hispanic Black adults with T2D to encourage others to incorporate the evaluation and effectiveness of evidence-based recruitment strategies in research studies.
