P108 - Ongoing Treatments with High Concentration Capsaicin Topical System Results in Progressive Pain Reduction for Painful Diabetic Neuropathy: A Retrospective Real-World Analysis

This poster describes a study that examines the effectiveness of the FDA-approved capsaicin 8% topical system for neuropathic pain in diabetic neuropathy patients. It analyzes the progression of pain reduction in patients receiving multiple treatments. Eighteen patients were initially selected, with twelve completing the study due to consistent pain score data. Pain was measured using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale before and after each treatment. Results indicated that most patients experienced significant pain relief, with a progressive decrease in pain intensity noted over successive treatments. This suggests that capsaicin 8% effectively reduces pain by targeting and lysing pain-transmitting nerve fibers, which may regrow over time and require ongoing treatment due to the chronic nature of diabetes. In addition, this treatment appears to offer progressive benefits with repeated use.
