P230 - Nutrition Considerations for Persons with Type 1 Diabetes: From Toddlers to Older Adults
Saturday, August 10, 2024
12:15 PM – 1:15 PM CT
Persons with type 1 diabetes are often diagnosed early in life and thus manage glucose levels through life milestones, including childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and older adulthood. This poster reviews the nutrition considerations and guidelines for managing glycemic variability and outcomes during each phase in life, including growth in childhood, puberty during adolescence, co-morbidity prevention or management in adulthood, and increased coexisting illnesses with possible functional disability in later adulthood. Nutrition considerations during transitional care will be addressed, including preparing adolescents for adult self-care; loss of independence, and geriatric syndromes (e.g., cognitive impairment, depression, frailty) in later adulthood.
