P216 - Effectively Reducing Health Disparities: The Impact of an All-Spanish DSMES Curriculum

Nearly two-thirds of non-English speakers in the U.S. speak Spanish. With a higher incidence of diabetes in racially and ethnically diverse groups, improving access to Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support (DSMES) for Spanish speakers is critical to reducing health disparities. An online DSMES and all-Spanish curriculum makes this possible. As no DSMES-approved curriculum exists tailored for an online and Spanish-speaking audience, we developed one. This poster reviews outcomes for the all-Spanish curriculum for A1C and meeting healthy eating goals and highlights the effectiveness of culturally and linguistically appropriate DSMES interventions.
