P517 - Process Improvement for Managing Diabetes Technology in the Hospital

The use of insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors has been increasing. When people using these devices are admitted to the hospital, providers and caregivers may have a limited understanding of their role in the safe care of these patients while still allowing them to independently manage their diabetes devices. This poster describes a gap analysis showing the existing order set and nursing documentation were outdated and lagging behind the advancement of these technologies leading to inappropriate orders and confusing documentation. The poster author outlines her work with 8 hospitals to make the process of insulin pump management clear, valuable, and meaningful.
