Diabetes education is an important aspect of care for hospitalized patients before discharge, especially if there are changes in established diabetes care plans, or new topics related to diabetes management. A model where one diabetes care and education specialist provides education for every patient with diabetes in the hospital is unrealistic and unsustainable. Bedside nurses provide patient education during the entire hospital stay and often also provide diabetes education. Since nurses have competing patient care tasks, this poster outlines how nurses can utilize technology such as patient education videos to complement the patient education they provide.
