P506 - Hands-on Education to Engage Inpatient Nurses to be Curious About Diabetes Technology
Saturday, August 10, 2024
12:15 PM – 1:15 PM CT
Inpatient nursing staff are unfamiliar with personal diabetes technology, and persons with diabetes may feel unsafe if unable to continue to use diabetes technology during hospitalization. This poster describes a project that aims to improve the nursing staff's knowledge gap of diabetes technology by collaborating with local manufacturing representatives, poster presentations, icebreaker questions, and education handouts. The data collection methods included pre- and post-assessment using the validated Type 1 Diabetes Knowledge Assessment (KAT-1). The authors stress the importance of ongoing education for nursing staff to ensure effective use of diabetes technology to improve patient outcomes ultimately.
