The transition to emerging adulthood with T1D is a time of great change in families. There is a significant and unmet need to examine the support needs of mothers and the linkages between social support and maternal transition-related outcomes, including quality of life. While most research about mothers of children with T1D focuses on the newly diagnosed and mothers of younger children, this is one of the first studies investigating influences on mothers' quality of life during their child's transition to adulthood. This poster reviews this study that explored the relationships among social support, diabetes distress, and maternal quality of life outcomes during their adolescent’s transition to adulthood with T1D. The long-term goal of this research is to support mothers during their child’s transition from youth into adulthood, ensuring family-centered care throughout the lifespan. Findings from this study will inform the development of interventions targeted at T1D providers designed to support families during the transition to adulthood. Authors: Michelle M.
