P412 - Implementation of a Depression Screening Tool in Adults with T2D in a Primary Care Setting

When examining individuals with chronic illnesses, depression is twice as prevalent among individuals with diabetes as those with other chronic diseases. People with type 2 diabetes have an increased chance of developing a major depressive disorder, higher healthcare costs, and an earlier risk of death. When left untreated, depression has the potential to increase the risk of comorbidities, including poor glycemic management, obesity, stroke, and heart disease. This poster will address the impact of screening and identification of people with diabetes for depression in a rural primary care setting using the PHQ-9 tool.
