P307 - Innovative Strategy for Onboarding Diabetes Champions in a Large Hospital System

Diabetes champions are key members of the inpatient care team providing evidence-based diabetes care. In our large university system, they provide education to colleagues, facilitate communication between bedside caregivers and the hospital Glycemic Safety Committee, and participate in quality improvement. Our organization values their input in decisions about practice change and policy/protocol development. However, with increasing nursing turnover, decreasing experience level of the average nurse, and increasing demands on their time, as well as the time of champion leaders, preparing champions for the role is challenging. This poster describes an innovative strategy for onboarding diabetes champions.
