According to the Organ Procurement & Transplantation Network (OPTN), over 100,000 solid organ transplant candidates are on the waitlist. Diabetes can be a factor for needing a solid organ transplant, as well as a long-term complication that can develop after a solid organ transplant. This presentation will provide an overview of solid-organ transplant, factors related to post-transplant diabetes and diabetes management, and the value of diabetes care and education specialists in the interdisciplinary care of these patients.
